I dont think it would cost to much to build. Chlorine the water to keep it clean. The first one doesnt look like it takes up to much space. Is that more of something you would see at Roaring Springs though? Would there be a seperate charge for this exhibit? I guess the dive into the large exhibit is a sport also.

I believe that the wave ride would be a big hit. If you can adjust the intensity of the wave, the smaller kids could have fun with it as well. ANYTHING WATER IS GOOOOOOD!!!!!!!

yes they could be adjusted some places said they would keep it low for the kids then turn it high for the bigger kids/dads later in the evening. We also could charge more for this like $5 for 5 min ride or whatever we have to work it out but i think we have the room and would be fun.

Although I think this is cool, it does seem very water park like to me. Not something you'd see at an aquarium. Not only would you house the exibit, but you'd have to house some type of place to change, etc... And in the winter time it'd be kind of cold. Even indoors.

Yea the changing room area could pose some kind of minor problem. As far as cold the temp inside the Aquarium will be between 74 and 78 in the winter so i don't think that would pose a problem.

OK... maybe you 'might' not see this at a regular aquarium - but we are in Idaho.. I like the idea of scuba diving stuff - maybe you could sub-contract someone to do scuba lessons, then tie it in with the wave pool. Having beach type activities in the Winter??? in Idaho??? Hello - who wouldn't want that? How much white have we seen this winter? The chance to go do something summer like and see sea life? NICE! Just make it part of your Business Plan and how you bring it all together..... Great Idea - this doesn't have to be your regular aquarium... This is the Boise Aquarium in Idaho

I don't think you should let the changing rooms and winter temps stop you. We live in Idaho. We don't have the luxury of that beautiful Pacific Ocean outside the Aquarium door like many... and it's cold here in the winter. EVERYTHING we do here has the potential to freeze our fannies! We take our kids swimming in the winter. You blow dry them and bundle them up afterwards. It's just a fact of life in Idaho. I personally think the "Wave" would be fantastic to tie the aquarium to the ocean, at least in our minds eye. The sound of the thing alone will add a whole dimension! You have a dream. Go for it!

The idea has been growing on me. We could easily heat the water up to a comfortable temp, and heat the air in the wave room if it was cold. Temp is not my concern, rather the size of a changing room, showers, lockers, etc. But we could utilize the changing area also for the tide pools where we plan to have people be able to walk into the tide pools and get their feet wet. Ammon, can you let us know size/cost requirements for something like this?

I agree the surf *wave* pool is a great idea, and I think the business could generate a HUGE amount of revenue from it as a 'year-round' surf spot as Boise doesn't exactly have a lot of things to do on the weekends. My question is regarding the space, I believe the site indicates the aquarium will be about 14,000 sq. feet, is that right? If so, how much of that would be taken for a surf wave pool, changing rooms etc.

How about an exhibit of tidal pools and the different critters that live in them? Maybe displays of tidal pools from around the world.

We have that exhibit in the design layout. I think its a great idea also. It would basically be a number of tide pools connected to each other that people can interact with the animals. "Touch Ponds"
